Since then I graduate from college, my family and I moved and I am trying to organize my life again. The floor elevation is approx 2,600 ft, long-axis length 277 miles and width 4-18 miles. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;I have visited the Grand Canyon once while I was in college (my first time). It was very beautiful to see. I was with a bunch of friends and we hiked down to the bottom of the South Rim of the canyon. I thought that it was the coolest thing to be able to call my parents from a payphone that they had down there. I wouldn’t think that any cell phone would be able to get any signals down that far today. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;I also found out some interesting things about some mysteries and legends of the Grand Canyon. I always like to hear ghost stories. And I found some that the Grand Canyon is famous for and here is one of them.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"&gt;South Rim Ghosts&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"&gt;Hopi house is an Adobe structure designed by Mary Coulter and built on the south rim. It is so authentic that during its construction the Navajo workers slept in it. Today it has a gift shop with Native American crafts. The low ceilings and earth construction make it feel very much like an Adobe dwelling.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"&gt;Two Grand Canyon ghosts are said to haunt Hopi House. They are called the "Brown Boys" by the employees and can be heard running around upstairs in the late evening. They have been known to turn off computers and throw merchandise on the floor if they don't like how it's arranged. They've even lined up dolls in a row to be found in the morning by the surprised employees. In true poltergeist fashion, they just make a general nuisance of themselves. Hopi house is on the rim trail in Grand Canyon Village next to El Tovar, which has several ghosts of its own.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;"&gt;In El Tovar, a ghostly woman who looked like she was from the 1930s was seen by a night watchman. He was so frightened that he wouldn't finish his shift. Fred Harvey in his long coat and tall black hat is one of the more recognizable Grand Canyon ghosts. He is sometimes seen in the hotel. Occasionally guests check out early after seeing death faces when they look into the mirror of one of the rooms. A couple of employees once saw a huge ball of light push the kitchen doors open and float across the dining room. It exited a window in the direction of the canyon. And to top it off, one of the service elevators is reputed to smell like blood.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://grand-canyon-vacation-information.com/grand-canyon-ghosts.html"&gt;http://grand-canyon-vacation-information.com/grand-canyon-ghosts.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can tell you that I never saw any ghosts in the Grand Canyon. But it could be that I was too afraid that snakes and insects would crawl in my sleeping bag with me. So I didn’t have time to think about eerie ghosts. But I did enjoy myself and it was an experience of a life time one I’ll probably never forget. Isaac Potts, 26 years old, was a resident of Valley Forge, and as a Quaker was opposed to the war. He supervised the grinding of the grain which George Washington ordered the neighboring farmers to bring to his army. The fullest account of Potts' testimony is in the "Diary and Remembrances" of Rev. Nathaniel Randolph Snowden, a Presbyterian minister and a Princeton graduate&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;(Original Manuscript at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania; Call no. PHi.Am.1561-1568)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;"I was riding with him (Mr. Potts) near Valley Forge, where the army lay during the war of the Revolution. Mr. Potts was a Senator in our state and a Whig. I told him I was agreeably surprised to find him a friend to his country as the Quakers were mostly Tories. He said, "It was so and I was a rank Tory once, for I never believed that America could proceed against Great Britain whose fleets and armies covered the land and ocean. But something very extraordinary converted me to the good faith."&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;"What was that?" I inquired. "Do you see that woods, and that plain?" It was about a quarter of a mile from the place we were riding. "There," said he, "laid the army of Washington. It was a most distressing time of ye war, and all were for giving up the ship but that one good man. In that woods," pointing to a close in view, "I heard a plaintive sound, as of a man at prayer. I tied my horse to a sapling and went quietly into the woods and to my astonishment I saw the great George Washington on his knees alone, with his sword on one side and his cocked hat on the other. He was at Prayer to the God of the Armies, beseeching to interpose with his Divine aid, as it was ye Crisis and the cause of the country, of humanity, and of the world.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;"Such a prayer I never heard from the lips of man. I left him alone praying. I went home and told my wife, 'I saw a sight and heard today what I never saw or heard before', and just related to her what I had seen and heard and observed. We never thought a man could be a soldier and a Christian, but if there is one in the world, it is Washington. We thought it was the cause of God, and America could prevail."&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center" class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt; text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;. . . . . . . . . . . .&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;George Washington was not known as a great public speaker, but as he was about to make a speech at the end of the war, he remembered a slip of paper in his pocket and he pulled out his glasses. The crowd went silent when he put his spectacles on as he said,&lt;span class="apple-converted-space"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;"I see that you notice that I wear glasses. Well, it was to be.&amp;nbsp; I've not only grown old and gray, I've become almost blind in the service of my country."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;span class="apple-converted-space"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;And with that simple, unrehearsed, spontaneous statement, everyone was moved to tears as they had been reminded of who this man was and what he had done for our country.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;The respect for Washington was so great that the first proposal for his new title, recommended by John Adams, was, "His Glorious Highness, The President of the United States and Glorious Protector of Our Liberties." Congressman William McClay from Pennsylvania basically said, "What's with Adams? Doesn't he understand what we fought this thing for? It's to get rid of all of that stuff." But this story illustrates the high regard congress had for Washington.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center" class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt; text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;. . . . . . . . . . . .&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said about George Washington, "The reason that I consider him to be such a hero is... almost no one in human experience gives up power willingly.&amp;nbsp; Power is intoxicating and once you have it you don't want to let it go and [Washington] could have been king. He could have been monarch for the rest of his life and passed it on to his heirs, but he served two terms as president and would not accept a third term. You talk about greatness. That really speaks to me."&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="verdana12-17style8" style="line-height: 12.75pt;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;"&gt;The world was watching during this moment of when George Washington said he would give up his power after two terms as President of the United States. And that he listen to that inspiration.&lt;br /&gt;And for those who take the time to teach us of The Real America our great nation and what it was really like. Two of which were our founding Fathers George Washington 1st President of the United States of America and Thomas Jefferson 3rd President of the United States of America. The other two are Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States of America and Theodore Roosevelt the 26th President of the United States of America.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h1 style="font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;Gutzon Borglum started carving them back in 1927 and had finished the Presidents face between 1934 and 1939. Gutzon was not able to finish the rest of the carvings due to his death in 1941, so Gutzon's son Lincoln Borglum finished the construction.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;An interesting fact that I read was that the carvings were suppose to also include their waists. Due to the lack of funding they were not able to finish the rest of the carvings.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;The United States National Park Service took control over the memorial back in 1933 and still run it today.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;The entire monument covers 1,278.45 acres of land and is 5,725 feet above sea level. It attracts about       2 million people yearly from the United States and from other countries.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"&gt;All the cultures that is the fabric of the country are represented by the memorial and surrounding Black Hills of South Dakota. The information that we want our visitors that visit Mount Rushmore National Memorial take away with them is the understanding and love that we have for our nation's history and cultures and the importance of caring for that legacy.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-style: normal; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;My husband and I went to Historical Fort Snelling on Memorial Day weekend. It was a very thought provoking day for me!!! ;) I remember going to Historical Fort Snelling as a kid on school trips, it wasn't as cool as a kid and I didn't appreciate it as much. Now it's cool, okay I now appreciate it more than I did as a kid!!! ;)&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;We were there almost all day long, got sun burned (well worth it) and had a very enjoyable day!!!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;So okay I will tell you a little bit about Historic Fort Snelling.&amp;nbsp;It was the development for the U.S. Northwest that was once an American symbol of ambition in the wilderness. The United States had gained control over the upper Mississippi during the&amp;nbsp;Revolutionary&amp;nbsp;War with Great&amp;nbsp;Britain&amp;nbsp;and then later the&amp;nbsp;Louisiana&amp;nbsp;Purchase from France.&amp;nbsp;The territory was&amp;nbsp;inhabited&amp;nbsp;by fur traders and&amp;nbsp;Indians that were still loyal to the British.&amp;nbsp;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;The government after the war of 1812 took physical possession of the Northwestern frontier by establishing an&amp;nbsp;Indian&amp;nbsp;chain of agencies from Lake&amp;nbsp;Michigan&amp;nbsp;to the Mississippi River. &amp;nbsp;Also there were wilderness outposts along the river that would not allow for non-citizens commercial use of the American rivers.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;By 1812 the 5th&amp;nbsp;regiment&amp;nbsp;of infantry arrived at the junction of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers to build the northwest link chain of the forts and agencies.&amp;nbsp;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;And Colonel Josiah Snelling’s officers and soldiers permanently changed the landscape. They made roads, built a gristmill and sawmill at St. Anthony Falls, planted several hundreds of acres of vegetables, wheat and corn. They cut hay for their livestock, chopped down trees for fires and they were the first to record weather conditions in the area. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;Also the Historic Fort Snelling does reenactments that shows what it was like back in the 1820s when Josiah Snelling was in charge of Fort Snelling. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"&gt;We also went to the small church on the grounds. It was cool we got to meet the man who saved the church from being torn down and having a highway put through it. He collected about 1,000 signature just minuets before they were going to tear the church down. And since they had the signatures they decided to keep it preserved it, they built the highway around it. He was a WWII Vet. Did you know that it took Thomas Jefferson 17 days to write the Declaration of Independence? He would work on it from about 6:00 til midnight. I am so grateful for Thomas Jefferson having had the inspiration in writing the Declaration of &amp;nbsp;Independence, so that we can all be Free!!! ;) And for all the Forefathers that signed it into existence. This has gone through centuries for us to uphold. And we indeed need to do so with respect and reverence. This was a fight for our Freedom and Independence from the British Parliament who was trying to control everyone under a King. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political band which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.&lt;br /&gt;We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Memorial stands 190 feet long, 119 feet wide and almost 100 feet high. The statue of Lincoln himself stands 19 feet high and weighs 175 tons. The statue of Lincoln was carved in four years by the Piccirilli brothers under the watchful eye of the sculptor Daniel Chester French.&lt;br /&gt;Carved inscriptions of Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address and his Gettysburg Address are located in the North and South chambers. This is my first blog ever. I am not quite sure how to run a blog, so I'm just kinda going by the seat of my pants. &lt;br /&gt;I have dedicated my blog to the military men and women and also the law enforcement men and women. I am so grateful for all that you do to keep our country safe and free. It is hard for me to put in words what it means to me. So from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!! ;)&lt;br /&gt;I am doing my best to spread the word about how great our military and law enforcement are. You guy's don't seem to get appreciated, or thanked a lot. &lt;br /&gt;I have had relatives and friends serve in the military. And I am so grateful and blessed to be protected by all of you.&lt;br /&gt;It breaks my heart to hear and see people so ungrateful and to listen to those in the media tear you guys down.&lt;br /&gt;I have really had my eye's opened, by reading Marcus Luttrell's book "Lone Survivor." I knew that you guys were great and sacrificed a lot for our country, but not to the depths that I read in Marcus' book.&lt;br /&gt;My relatives and friends never really have talked about it. &lt;br /&gt;I write to soldiers. I am in Soldiers Angels and I feel privileged to write to them. I've been busy the past nine months with school and haven't had as much time as I would have liked to, to write to them often. But I do enjoy it!!! ;) I hope that in the near future I will be able to volunteer at a VA Hospital near me!!! ;)&lt;br /&gt;So I'll I can say is Thank You!!! ;) May God Bless and Protect your lives each and every day!!! ;) Your in my thoughts and my prayers.
